United States 02/01/02
Swath of snow left in wake of winter storm that swept across the
Southern Plains to the Great Lakes on 30-31 January 2002. MODIS bands
1,4,6 (RGB) color image (top) assist in identifying snow and
differentiating snow from clouds. In this color combination snow
appears yellow and most clouds appear white. A modified version of
the MODIS snow algorithm was applied to the data to generate the snow
map (bottom). The snow map, 500 m spatial resolution, shows snow in
white. Cloud masking is not applied in the algorithm. MODIS data
from University of Wisconsin SSEC ( http://www.ssec.wisc.edu ).
